Friday Matinee - Losa O Losa (LOL)

Film making is an Industry, business, creative art and livelihood for many. But it is gambling when you set aside all the norms. Budgeting to publicity to release, the film travels long journey with painstakingly approximate six months to one year. You are investing money to get it back with profit so you know the maximum potentials to minimal. And always remember your market is too small. Budget anything more than 10 Cr means the maker in trouble before the release itself.Here we have interesting case on hand Laila O Laila (LOL) . Much anticipated Mohanlal �Amalapaul combo with veteran director Joshiey with script of Suresh Nair. The producers are new bunch of people with a banner Fine Cut entertainments.   The hype surrounding it had several plus but here we are discussing how it turned in to a gambling where you know that you are going to dry up your pocket than gain.

LOL has taken some time to complete and the schedule delay might have caused additional burden but hearing reports of budget at a whopping 16 Cr! Initially I thought it may be a ploy to add spices to bidding channels for the satellite rights and fortunately they have succeeded in getting extra ordinary rights as well. But even after getting if the figure of 16 is real it does not count to a one third of the budget. Plus another crore from overseas and outside Kerala might be added. Which means the film has to collect nearly 23 Crore in domestic market for break even. Before planning the budget they should have gone through Mollwood history in collections. A share of 10 Cr is rarest phenomena. Maximum a film can be sure of if it is blockbuster is 7 Cr. You can�t expect a Drishyam or Bangalore days all the time. It happens once in blue moon.

LOL has an average to below average WOM and social media seems to be outraged due to lack of any special twist or turn. Just an ordinary action thriller: presence of Super Star Mohanlal has saved the film to great extent. He is still at ease and flexible to do actions and but the film does not require a bollywood script writer to pen down because any local script writer would have done better job. Joshiey bears the blame but he has minimized the faulty scripts latches by his direction. As far as BO concerned it had excellent opening due to release in around 100 screens. Collects around 1.20 Cr.  The WOM is negative and may survive the weekend and thereafter it will fall. The maximum share they can gracefully pray for is 2.5 Cr to 3 Cr. That calculation make the lose figure of LOL to a nearly 6 Cr. An amount required to make two Mollywood films. On the other note, the one who watches this film can easily predict the budget which can�t be more than 10 Cr. Truth will prevail always. Waiting for it.

Jayaram�s Sir CP at last finds the screens after gap of 4 month delay. Released in around 50 plus screens. Thought it was bad idea as it was released along LOL now feel it may benefit. Mixed response from FDFS viewers. This is Jayaram�s 200th film. The evergreen star is going through tough phase of his long career



Lal Jose has come up with Neena. Respect for his dedication to the movie. No major stars involved and it sounds he believe more in product than its outer cover. Released in 40 screens and initial reports are indicating �a different movie�.

The summer rain has inflicted casualty on the last week�s film in various parts of the state. Especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Mollywood was on winning streak till Vishu now slowly things are changing the mad rush of films kills the potential winner. Distributors are finding it hard to get screens due to flooded releases.

Chandretten evidaya bit charm is lacking at box office. Otherwise it would have a roller coaster at Mollywood. Still lags behind. Collects around 5.40 Cr in 13 days. Likely to become an average affair at BO. It will be injustice to a movie which has brought back real Dileep.

Oru II class yathra impressed with initial and collect around 2.70 Cr in 6 days. Unseasonal rain hampered collection a bit on 5 and 6th day otherwise would have crossed 3 Cr easily. Journey of small films always brighten Mollywood future plans. It may land safe zone with  possible decent satellite right.

Bhasker the rascal still holds on. Collects around 13.10 Cr . Family audience summer choice.

Oru Vadakkan Selfie celebrates 50 days in around 30 screens and still continues even after all the big releases. The collection has reached 17.50 Cr. Ennum Epozhum also reaches 50 days in few screens with limited shows
