A long weekend with holidays of Navarathri and culminating with Bakrid , simply hectic days for the theaters and multiplexes. Good number of films are arrayed to reap the rare harvest of holidays. Bang Bang , Tamar Padaar and Yaan released with huge hype and expectations. Bang Bang had biggest release in Kerala with mixed WOM. The hatrick chance for Super Star Prithviraj seems to have been missed , Tamar Padaar has misfired ?
It was a week of two debutant directors. Jibu Jacob and Santhosh Nair. Velli Moonga and Money Rathnam has rendered a comedy ride in the theaters. Jibu has succeeded springing a surprise in the Mollywood with Velli Moonga. This Biju menon film started on a dull note has picked up considerably well by the spread of good WOM. Mollywood box office has shown no mercy to low budgeted film even if they get good WOM. But this one becomes an exception as the initial trends indicate of hit in making at the box office. The feel good factor with some better comedy moments invites the attention of film lovers. The release on Thursday helped it to increase the pace at box office by the weekend. The film collects a highly impressive 2.45 Crore in 7 days in around 66 screens. A solo hit for Biju menon in making who has been part of many super hits with major leading stars.
On the other hand, Money Rathnam is singing second fiddle to Moonga in the box office thus out shining Onam releases. Except Thaskara all other Onam releases were severely damaged by these two releases. Fahad Fazil has shown his comedy timing in Indian Pranayakadha and here one more time he shirks off the serious roles. Though had wide release in seventy plus screens in Kerala it has collected a moderate 1.65 crore in 6 days.
Sapthamasree Thaskara has crossed 10 Crore mark with maintain 70 plus screens even in 4th week. New release may hamper its chance at box office but may finally settle at Kerala gross of 12 crore. It has surpassed 7,000 show count and in all possibility to touch 8,000 by next week. But the big release of this week is set to crack its dominance at box office. Two Prithviraj films on a face to face competition.
The Onam releases update : Rajadhi Raja has missed the chance of becoming super hit, Peruchazhi, Bhaiya Bhaiya and Villali veeran are continuing in some of the centers with reduced shows. While big M�s have delivered good hit through their respective Onam entertainers. Other two failed to attain hit status. Mammooty film has garnered 9.25 crore in 27 days with 6,500 shows with near termination. Peruchazhi has nearing to its saturation by collecting 11.55 crores in 34 days with 7,300 shows.
Njan is a disaster which is totally unexpected. It faced a near wash out in second week . The brand names like Ranjith and Dulquar failed to give enough oxygen at box office. 1.90 Crore is the 13 days gross and it may get terminated by this week.
