End of March to April Mollywood showcased bumper era of collection but the month May is surrounded by various hurdles. Should have been hot summer but Kearala under thick clouds and many parts in South Kerala experienced equal to monsoon rain! It is rainy cold days in Mollywood virtually shocked by certain setbacks. Three films released last week faces the rough weather than the WOM.
Laila O Laila (LOL) has disappointed even the Mohanlal fans. Struggled at box office but mighty Antony as a distributor carries to second week with minimal removals though plenty of show reductions are there in store. Many say outdated formula which cant work in Malayalam film any more. Multiplex audience shown their displeasure on the day two onwards and single screen performed average to below average on the weekdays. First flop by Mohanlal in lead in recent times though he is part of disaster Rasam in this year. Collects around 3.55 Cr in 7 days. It looks the coterie surround the complete actor still drags him to similar roles if you see the coming projects. Wont be seeing the actor in him at least for a year if those projects come through and end result will be flops and disasters.
Chandretten evidaya is lucky due to failure of LOL. Families gave first preference to it and second to BTR. Collection is around 6.40 Cr in 20 days with around 5,000 shows in around 40 plus screens. Average hit at box office.
Neenathe bold attempt of Director Lal Jose pay off. Social network paraded behind the film and Multiplexes shown an increase in occupancy an indication of rather stronger performance this week. Though released in around 40 screens only LJ films played intelligent game by increasing screens to reap the best fruit before next weeks gigantic releases. Collects around 90 lakhs in 6 days.
Oru II class yathra can be called successful small film even after getting mixed opinion. Collected around 3.75 Cr in 13 days with 3,400 shows in 70 screens. It holds on to releasing screens for the second week amidst other big releases.
Sir CPis the best example how you can kill a movie. Many major cities were left out in releasing and poor marketing cut the throat in the beginning itself. Jayaram finds in a highly critical period. Hoped Shajoon Karyal may have good come back. The makers can take some lessons from Neena. Dont wait but release the day you want regardless of other films hyped potentials.
Bhasker the rascal stuns even after a month and it has all the cities screens, really astonishing. Still has good weekend collections and collects 14 Cr in 35 days with around 10,000 shows, Fantastic.
Kumbasaaram and Swargathekkal Sundaram try their luck at a gloomy market. Initial reports suggest there wont be any major surprise. Next week Premam set to release. Can we see copy paste heavy rush just like Bangalore days ?
