A movie with hyper hype can create adverse reaction within few days if it does not match with ordinary viewers expectations. There are several example in recent times like Casanova, Gangster, Loham, Double Barrel etc and the list goes on. Here we have one more movie to add in the list, Action Hero Biju. Since this blogger restricts evaluation of films on its box office perspective this blog is not up on the merit of the Biju but on mistakes committed at box office.
Since wide release started it has become a norm nowadays for the bigger star films to release wider. It ensures a fixed collection thus saves from the collection drought which can proceed in the week days once WOM settles finally. LJ films went on one step ahead, they tried to make the release of Biju mother of all release by releasing it exceedingly 120 plus screens. Still dont understand the strategy behind this move which has backfired heavily on the movies prospects itself. If the movie has good WOM normally theater complex owners tries to accommodate it by giving more shows in the weekend. . But in this case it has happened virtually opposite even after getting a watchable WOM. See the fate of Charlie and Two countries it had released in 80 plus screens and during it run it even reached near to 100 due to overwhelming response. By giving more screens you are hurting the present screen owners who might have given huge advances. The boomerang effect of wider release lies in adverse publicity it gets on removals of extra centers when there is no heavy competition. Nearly 20 screens were removed on very next day of release and shows were reduced frequently on each passing days. This removals and reduction creates doubt on average viewer that watchable WOM is right or wrong and ultimately they decides to view the movie which has better WOM. Selective viewing is real in non festive season, the basic lesson failed to learn in this case. Lastly the title conveyed a wrong impression. Still doubt was it apt for the movie ?
Moreover LJ films overestimated the star power of Nivin Pauly in a big manner. He has high demand in the industry in the present circumstance but not equal to the crowd pulling power to match DQ , the initials of Biju vindicate this factum. His fans are largely from youths but even they have not shown enough support for the movie. May be the timing of release went wrong. Certain combos works in his favour on day one. With Vineeth is the one among them. Box office wise Biju has worst weekday beginning with many screens faced hold over threat as collection dipped lesser than 30 %. Collects around 4.57 Cr approx in 5 days which sounds good but not par with expectation at box office! Very tough days are ahead hoping for miracle for better performances in coming days. Experienced LJ films still can plan by some marketing so that they can rejuvenate the falling collection.
