Expectations are sky high whenever Super Star Mohanlal and Director Ranjith join together. Malayalee still nurtures those 15 to 18 years old punch dialogues of this blockbuster combo. Ranjith as script writer was actually the man who shaped the common man image of Mohanlal to� more than a man� role. Super human image in later stage went on to hamper this actors career even the hardcore fans began to shout for normal roles.
The last time when they were together it was different experience in �Spirit� released in 2012 with socially relevant theme on alcoholism and it was successful affair in box office too. The first day Spirit was full of houseful shows on hype built in expectation of another yesteryear sensation but it turned in docu-fiction experiment.
After three year when the combo comes with Mohanlal in ever famous meesha piri role (moustache twirling) obviously you can�t blame his fans if they expect another mass through Loham ! The teaser indicated this line as well though Ranjith candidly admitted the film is not of mass genre. But the teaser was opposite of his words and it became hit in You Tube. But the trailer which released on the eve of film release was contrary to what teaser projected. Was it peculiar marketing strategy to confuse?
Anyway, the hype has provided an earth shattering opening to Loham. The Kerala cities screens were overcrowded with houseful shows plus extra shows. Collection zoomed up to record level by taking bumper 2.20 Cr with around 540 shows in 125 screens as per the initial reports. Ernakulam registered around 16 lakhs on day one from one single screen and 4 multiplexes which is a record. The hype gave grand opening and at the same time giving enough negative impact also on the ordinary audience as they expect punch dialogues and maverick scenes which are actually lacking in the movie. The real test will be Monday onwards how the film performs as the WOM is just an average range. The second day started on a dull note but changed to a promising day as it enters matinee shows and the euphoria may pass through the weekend as it is the solo release in this week. It is not mass movie but the collection on day one is mass redefined for sure.
Box office fate will be known by the end of 6th day and as there are another four films to be released in next week it will heavily rely up on the initial . The both actor and the director need a HIT.
