Friday Matinee - Can Ithihasa create history ?

Its one more ! 2014 will be remembered for the success stories created by bunch of small films in Mollywood. Last month we had Vellimoonga which is still running with full swing one more film joins the elite club. Ithihasa. Truly a small budget non star film with a debutant director Binu at the helm! Though initial figures may not sound as emphatic as other star studded films, the growth it has shown since first day is unimaginable for the grade of such films. It has released roughly around 39 screens with reduced shows and as the days pass several centers has tremendously increased the show count pointing to the demand it generated at the theaters. A plot based on fantasy filled with comedy and it worked well with audience. The film opened to a lukewarm response in the opening day, driving now safely. It has collected 1.05 Cr in 6 days and bright week ahead with addition of another 15 screens. The WOM circulated through social network is added advantage and it stake at satellite rights also to gain a momentum. The success of this film will boost the morale of low budget movie makers. With shoestring budget another week in 50 plus screens is going to put the film on safer side.

Other cotemporary release of last Friday unable to stay in box office though above one sailed through. Asha Black and 100 degree Celsius got notable attention but enough in terms to pull surprise.

Vellimoonga surges towards one of the biggest profitable venture of Mollywood in 2014 after Bangalore days. The film stupendously strong in around 80 plus screen in its third week with 6,000 show count! The Kerala collection is at 8.45 Crore in 21 days and it has massive release outside Kerala. The world wide total in going to cross 10 Cr net by this weekend. Aiming to second largest grosser of 2014.

The both winners reminds Mollywood : it is not the budget extravaganza that wins the heart of the film lovers but the well executed plot with difference that light the lamp of invitation to attract more crowd and success at box office. The Onam budget is around 33 Cr for five films, these young boys would have made fifteen films out of it.

Sapthamasree Thaskara is at 11.40 Cr in its sixth week. Continues in around thirty plus screens. May have one more week in major centers . Once the Diwali release bombard at Mollywood , Malayalam films will have give way to them and stand as spectator to watch big Bollywood to Kollywood masalas.

Bang Bang continued in around 25 screens in Kerala with total gross of 4.80 Cr. First of its kind for bollywood in Kerala.

Tammar Padaar as expected last week, is a big flop. Money Rathnam trying to survive without much ammunition left in box office with some reduced shows. But it deserved better success.
